The Ducati 916 is recognised as the bike that changed the face of sports bike design forever. Released in 1994, the 916 was upgraded to 996 in 1997, although the first model retained the 916 title, a marketing feature Ducati has maintained since introduction of the 916.

The 996SPS ‘Sport Production Special’ was a means of homologating all the special components Ducati required for WSBK racing, and as a consequence these limited build specials have become highly sought after by collectors. Whilst the engine was basically same as the 996cc engine of the first SPS, the 1999 variant received a host of titanium componentry which achieved a considerable reduction on overall bike weight.

The 996SPS produced around 92.4 kW (124 bhp), but the engine was much stronger than anything that Ducati, or any other manufacturer at the time, had produced for track use.  To ensure even greater performance over the standard 996, the SPS received a much higher specification chassis for increased handling and outright speed, and included a modified adjustable steering head to change the steering. The wheels were a five spoke design but were lighter than the standard three spoke design of earlier 916 & 996’s.

This particular example has had only 2 previous owners and traveled only 16,000k’s from new. The present and previous owners have retained this bike on display in their own private collections. All original papers, service papers, original purchase invoice etc have been retained, and these show receipts for all the Ducati Performance parts you see presently fitted to the bike.
