1998 Laverda 750 S

Laverda is one of many Italian & British manufacturers to have fallen victim to the Japanese invasion, closing its doors in the early 80’s. The company went through a couple of iterations before ownership by the Zanini group, who commissioned famed designer Nico Bakker to pen a new frame around the fuel injected 668cc engine. Bakker’s design was worlds apart from traditional Laverda’s, focusing on achieving performance from an extremely small, but ridged frame, rather than high power output. The bike was immediately successful, albeit briefly, before financial problems forced the Zanini group to fold, but the Laverda name was salvaged by wealthy industrialist, and serious bike enthusiast, Francesco Tognon.

Now based in Zanè, some 10km West of the original Breganze factory, the Laverda name seemed to be progressing nicely. In 1996 work began on a heavily revised water-cooled 750cc engine that was introduced the following year in an up-graded frame and displayed to the world as the ’750S’. Utilising a similar chassis as the 650, the 750S combined the superb dynamics of the 650s with more power and torque to make a truly great upper-middleweight machine with its sights set firmly on the Ducati 748. Things looks good for the famous name and despite designing and building a new 1000 triple engine to power a range of new models planned for the naughties, cash flow again put an end to progress in 2000 everything was sold to Aprilia.

The Laverda 750S on offer here is one of the last produced before the final curtain fall. Australian delivered & located on the NSW Nth Coast, this is an original owner bike with only 13,700k’s from new. The bike has recently undergone an oil service & received a new battery.  Selling with original owner’s handbooks, original purchase receipt and personal salutation letter from Laverda Australia.
