Following the below average reaction to the 860GT, in 1977 Ducati introduced the Darmah 900SD which unlike the 860, paid far greater homage to the factory’s tradition styling cues. The result was immediate, so with clear direction management looked to introduce a more sports orientated version. The following year saw introduction of the 900 Super Sport Desmo, or 900 SSD.  Based on the standard 900SD but featuring clip-on handlebars and a half fairing styled similar to 900 Super Sport. The basic layout of the engine and chassis remained the same, albeit with a slightly higher compression ratio, and the SSD went on to be even more popular than its forerunner.

The example offered here is completely original, unrestored, and travelled only 17,000k’s in 40 years! Delivered new in the USA, this bike was purchased from the second owner who retained all the original purchase documents from Rissmann Motors & Cycles of Albuquerque, New Mexico, on September 26, 1980.  Now located on the Far North Coast, NSW, the bike has recently had a full service and is presently on NSW club rego.
