Arturo Magni commenced working for MV Agusta in 1950, after being offered the position of Head of the famous MV Racing Department. Arturo remained with MV for as long as they continued racing, and was directly responsible for the racing success of some of the world biggest names; Giacomo Agostini, Carlo Ubbiali, Tarquinio Provini, John Surtees, Mike Hailwood, Phil Read, Gianfranco Bonerair, and more.
After MV retired from competition, Arturo departed to open his own enterprise and would go on to design and develop many specialist models, none more so than the beautiful Magni MV Agusta. Sadly Arturo hung-up his work coat for the last time, 2 December 2015, but his legendary innovation and design will live forever in the bikes that carry his famous name, and through the work of his son, Giovannni, who has designed and produced a batch of reproduction Magni MV’s using the latest generation water-cooled engines.
The particular example of Arturo’s stunning craftsmanship is a 1978 861cc. Originally assembled by Magni’s German agent of the era, Hansen, it was owned by Klass Zwart from 1988 to 2014 and garaged in his Ascari Race Resort in Southern Spain where the bike was meticulously maintained by the Ascari team mechanics.
In 2014 it was acquired by the current owner and kept in a humidifier. It was serviced and ridden in May, 2015, at the UK MV Owners Club outing held at the Sywell Aerodrome, Northamptonshire.
