1977 Kawasaki KZ1000

$9,211.15

 Product Description

1977 Kawasaki KZ1000

Spectacularly original 1977 build Kawasaki KZ1000 Z1R. This bike is not restored, it is patina perfect and 41 years old. Obviously well cared for throughout its life, it has for the past 5 years been part of our collection and only travelled just over 15,000 miles from new.

The Z1000 as a model has an amazing history; successfully raced in Europe, Australian, American and British Superbike categories, US legend Reg Pridmore won the AMA Superbike Championship in 1977 and 1978 on board a Z1000, and internationally famous Pops Yoshimura first began to make his reputation in the mid-1970s by fielding fast, reliable Kawasaki Z1000s in the AMA Superbike championships. Locally, equally famous Mamoru Moriwaki prepared Z1000’s for the Australian Superbike championships for Kiwi legend Graeme Crosby. John Cowie riding a Z1000 for the Pecket & McNab team, won the 1978 British ACU Formula One championship for production bikes, while US hero Fast Freddie Spencer rode a Z1000 during the 79 AMA Superbike Championship, winning two races and finishing third in the final championship points standings, and in 1981, Eddie Lawson won the AMA Superbike Championship for Kawasaki on a factory-backed Z1000S. Ozzie fast men Wayne Gardner and John Pace qualified their Moriwaki-Kawasaki Z1000 on pole position at the prestigious 1981 Suzuka 8 Hours, ahead of all the major factory racing teams.

The KZ1000 also has history on the silver screen, with the over the top 70/80’s smash’em up cop series CHIP’s, staring Erik Estrada (Ponch) & Larry Wilcox (Jon). The KZ100 was also the bike of choice for Keanu Reeves in his film Chain Reaction. Closer to home 14 KZ’s were used in the original MAD MAX, one as a police bike ridden by 'The Goose', and thirteen more for members of the Toecutter's gang, who were actual gang members of Victorian based Vigilanties M/C.

This bike was delivered new in the US and imported into Australia by the current owner. It is easily the most original example we've seen presented for sale. In preparing this bike for selling the following work has been performed.

Full engine service, new plugs, oil & filter, and new battery (supplied in box).

Carburettors removed, striped and jets cleaned.

Rear brake fluid drained, master cylinder stripped and overhauled.

Front brake fluids drained, reservoir cleaned & new rubber bellow.

Fuel tank drained, cleaned and petcock seal replaced.
