Description
1972 Suzuki 500 Titan SAIAD
The Suzuki T500 Titan occupies a special place in early 1970s motorcycle racing history, representing one of the most powerful and durable two-stroke twins of its era. Originally conceived as a high-performance road machine, the T500 quickly became a favourite among privateer racers across Europe, where its strong, torque-rich engine and robust engineering made it an ideal platform for competition use.
This particular example is a period-correct privateer race-bike built by SAIAD, the official Italian Suzuki importer for Italy of the era, who would commision unique, limited-production performance models and racing specials. Dating from the early 1970s and prepared in the style typical of Italian national and regional competition. Finished in authentic racing livery and carrying race number 59, the bike retains the name strip “Brollo A.” on the fairing, a rare and evocative detail consistent with European racing practice of the period, where riders’ surnames were commonly displayed on their machines.
The motorcycle features a comprehensive suite of correct racing modifications, including a full fiberglass fairing with bubble screen, clip on handlebars, rearset foot controls, lightweight racing seat unit, tuned exhaust system, and upgraded braking components. These elements transform the already formidable T500 into a purposeful circuit machine, closely reflecting how Titans were campaigned by privateers during the era.
Sponsor markings such as Ceramiche Della Robbia and Team ITS further reinforce the bike’s Italian racing identity and lend it an unmistakable period presence. Importantly, the overall specification, materials, and presentation remain faithful to early 1970s practice, avoiding later anachronisms and preserving the character of a genuine privateer competition motorcycle.
Today, surviving race-prepared Suzuki T500s with documented period details are increasingly scarce. This example stands out not only for its visual impact but also for the authenticity of its construction and presentation, a compelling piece of classic racing history that captures the spirit of grassroots European competition in the golden age of two-stroke racing.
A rare opportunity to acquire a distinctive and highly evocative Suzuki Titan race bike, ideal for display, historic events, or inclusion in a serious classic motorcycle collection.
