Description
1955 Ducati 125 Grand Prix Bialbero
The Ducati 125 Grand Prix Bialbero represents the moment Ducati firmly established itself as a serious force in Grand Prix motorcycle racing. Developed in the early 1950s, the 125 GP was the most advanced small-capacity racing motorcycle Ducati had produced to that point and laid the technical foundation for the company’s long and successful competition history. At the heart of the 125 GP is the legendary Bialbero DOHC single-cylinder engine, featuring twin overhead camshafts and a five-speed gearbox, technology that was extraordinary for a 125cc motorcycle of the period. This example is a first-series machine and is believed to be among the earliest units produced.
Of particular historical significance, the engine cases were forged by Ferrari’s racing division, highlighting the close relationship between Italy’s elite engineering houses during this era. The design and development of the Bialbero is closely associated with Engineer Fabio Taglioni, whose influence on Ducati racing and road machines would go on to define the brand for decades. Produced in extremely limited numbers and intended purely for competition use, the 125 GP Bialbero was never a mass-market motorcycle. As a result, surviving examples are exceptionally rare, particularly those of known origin and early production.
This motorcycle is offered complete in all its major components, making it a highly important acquisition for a museum collection or serious Ducati collector. Opportunities to acquire an authentic early Ducati Grand Prix machine of this caliber are increasingly scarce, and the 125 GP Bialbero stands as a cornerstone in Ducati’s racing legacy.
