2005 SPONDON DUCATI 996
Steve Wynne and Sports Motor Cycles had a long and glorious history of making race and championship winning bikes. Apart from the fairy-tale win for Hailwood in 1978, there were numerous other championship wins including 4 TT F2 championships in the early 80's.
Steve Wynne worked with Spondon Engineering to create an alloy frame for air cooled Ducati's (bevel and belt), a program that ultimately progressed to the creation of a frame to suit the 4V Ducati engine. Work seemed to have started in 1987 and it obviously went well as the Spondon 4V won the BoTT series in 1988 and the European BoTT in 1993. The initial design started off with a twin spar design, but by mid 1992 they had progressed to a single larger main spar, as fitted to this bike, which is believed to have been constructed from the last remaining frame. Only 40 frames were ever built for the 4V Ducati engine, 10 complete bikes and 10 kits. This example was built in Germany around 2005, and remains today with its second owner.
