After continued success in sales and SBK racing of the 916 & 996 models, in 2002 Ducati updated to the 998. Whilst looking almost identical in outward appearance, the entire model rage was vastly improved.

For the 998S, this bike received the engine used in the previous year’s limited edition 996R, which made136bhp at 10,000rpm, some 13bhp up on last year’s 996S. Besides revised decals to reflect the new capacity, visually the biked look like yet another version of the world's most sexy bike, the 916, albeit with subtle tweaks that only a real Ducatisti would notice. The fairing on all three bikes (carbon-fibre on the 998R with a carbon-fibre bellypan on the S) is slightly wider without side vents as the new engine used a different radiator set-up with better cooling.

Other features on the 998S over standard include an Ohlins steering damper, colour-matched mirrors, new brake callipers, lighter front disc rotors, and the carbon-fibre belly pan.

This example presents in spectacularly original condition and has amassed only 1,317k’s in its 20 years. Ideal for collector or enthusiast, bikes of this calibre will continue to increase in value, scarcity and demand.
