1983 Kawasaki KZ1000 Eddie Lawson Replica
In 1981 Superbike legend Eddie Lawson had won the AMA Superbike Championship on the Team Muzzy built KZ1000, but for Kawasaki, their US dealers couldn’t give away the road going KZ1000’s. In a casual chat with his staff, the then Director of Marketing for Kawaka USA, Mike Vaughan, floated the idea of repainting a batch of KZ's in Eddie’s race scheme, and adding a few go-fast goodies to enhance customer appeal and hopefully cash-in on Eddies success.
The bikes were released as KZ1000R but would go on to be known as ELR’s, and as they say in the classics, the rest is history. Today ELR’s regularly sell for over $20kUSD, with the last recorded sale in June 2019 of $22.5kUSD (34kAUD) in the USA.
This particular ELR1000 has been preserved in original condition and is presently located in South-East Qld.
In 2015 respected scribe Mitch Boem did a fabulous article on the entire ELR history including interviewing Mike Vaughan and the great man Eddie Lawson himself.
