1974 750 Super Sport SOLD 2022
The 1974 Ducati 750 Super Sport, aka Greenframe, needs no introduction to motorcycle collectors and classic motorcycle enthusiasts the world over. Of the 401 built in January 1974, consensus today suggests something in the region of 250 genuine Greenframes have survived, but seldom does one surface in spectacularly original specification with the sum of its parts being those fitted to the bike 48 years ago on the Bologna assembly line.
While the model itself is indeed rare, even rarer is to discover a Greenframe that has remained in the same country as delivered new, and with full and continuous registration and ownership history. The bike presented here was sold new 1 August 1974, then changed hands on 29 March 1977 to the second owner, then 20 March 1990 to the third owner, and today the bike is owned by the third owner’s son.
By 1987 the bike had accrued only 6,000km at which time it underwent some minor cosmetics to repair the endemic (amongst Greenframes) UV faded paint, as well as replacement of the crankshaft bearings, a well documented requirement issued by the factory. After 39 years of faithful service, in 2013 the bike underwent a no-expenses-spared restoration by renown Ducati bevel specialist, and all receipts and descriptions of work performed have remained with the bike.
Whilst some items were replaced due to being beyond their service life, all original items not refurbished and refitted have been retained and are included with the sale including the original fuel tank, original and extremely valuable Scarab brake callipers, original windscreen, ignition coils, wiring loom and much more. (a cache of images depicting these parts are available for inspection). This exemplary Super Sport has every correct nut & bolt fitted at production, the extremely rare an unique to this model wheels, also unique to 74 SS forks, and every other item found only on the 74 SS.
Provenance of this bike is without question; it appears in the Bevel registry and the sale includes a verified copy of authenticity by Ian Falloon. Be sure to review the assortment of recent videos of the bike starting and being ridden in the 'Product Video' section below.
